Auction items ranged from gift certificates to your favorite NYC restaurants, beautiful handmade jewelry from Asian women designers, and more! This was the place to look for unique gifts this holiday season. The fun and exciting way to shop is with AWIB! Burberry and Asian Women In Business hosted an evening of private and personalized shopping and networking with discounts on all purchases. Burberry donated 10% of the total sales for the entire week (after mentioning the invitation from AWIB) to AWIB. We celebrated the season at the beautiful Burberry store on East 57th Street and had a toast (or few) with champagne while enjoying British holiday canapes. On top of this, we raffled off a Burberry trench coat!

AWIB led a private tour through Chelsea’s renowned art district. Guided by art expert and enthusiast, Michelle Loh, we visited several Asian owned galleries. At Asian Art Piers, we heard from artists Ruth Hardinger and Sook Jin Jo who challenged our notions of what defines art. The Sundaram Tagore Gallery featured Kim Joon’s newest works: self-expression pieces which allude to society’s attachments through an innovative use of computer graphics. At Miyako Yoshinaga Gallery, we saw the work of Brazilian artist Cleverson Oliveira. His use of everyday materials symbolizes his belief in the value of accessible-to-all materials and ideas.
A lovely reception followed at ArtGate Gallery with hors d’oeuvres from Kyotofu and wines from Vibrant Rioja and Frederick Wildman & Sons. Guests interacted with artist Ira Eduradovna who used a multimedia installation to capture the concept of home and Heesop Yoon whose awe-inspiring full wall installation was done using only black masking tape to explore the concepts of perception.
All in all, the tour proved that Asian women have had a positive influence on the Chelsea art scene both as gallery owners and directors and as artists bringing their unique perspectives to light. The tour also provided an engaging networking opportunity for AWIB members and friends.
