Press Release

Minority/Women Business Certification and New Business Opportunities

New York, NY (February 23, 2009) - Asian Women In Business (AWIB), in conjunction with NYC Small Business Services, will hold a series of workshops on Minority and Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Certification for Asian American-owned businesses. It will be held at the following location:

Asian Women in Business
42 Broadway, Suite 1748
New York, NY 10004
Tel. 212-868-1368

Workshops will be held on five (5) consecutive Tuesdays on the following dates and times:

Feb. 24 @ 5:30PM
March 3, 17, 24 @ 5:30pm
March 10 @ 8:30am (morning workshop)

These workshops are specifically designed to assist Asian business owners to obtain minority/women certification and gain greater access to contracting opportunities with government agencies. Attendees can find out how certification can be leveraged to grow their companies by expanding their marketing to include New York City agencies; and accessing tools that will increase their ability to compete successfully in City contracting opportunities. Certification as a Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) has become even more important because of Local Law 129, passed by the New York City Council, which directs buyers at New York City agencies to buy more goods and services from minority and women vendors.

Asian Women In Business (www.awib.org) is the only nonprofit organization in the country with the primary mission of assisting Asian women entrepreneurs. Over the years, AWIB has expanded its mission to address issues affecting the business and professional development of Asian women. AWIB sponsors conferences, workshops and seminars on a variety of business topics and holds frequent networking activities to enable members to make important business contacts.
